Phil i've given up looking at ebikes, they're expensive and the ones we can afford from canadian tire $900 on sale this week, have good batteries, but we weren't impressed with the quality of the actual bike. So I went looking on Kijiji for a good quality bike for commuting back and forth in the county (8+km each way for us) and found a great bike that same night - TREK 50, in new condition for $150., my wife loves it and the price was affordable.
PS If i did buy an electric bike, i'd go to peterborough and buy the $1,600. model they sell, it has a great bike chasis, good battery and a great motor installation - it mounts just above the crank and connects at the middle of the crank, you can take the motor off very easily and it's in a good well protected spot, unlike most motors which mount to the front wheel hub.
